John Bishop - Winging it Around Ireland

  • SOLD OUT
Ahead of John's shows at Dublin's 3Arena on 6, 7 & 8 October, he will be touring across Ireland for two weeks in September for a series of shows in six counties - Mayo, Galway, Cork, Clare, Limerick and Leitrim. John said “The chance to see parts of Ireland I have never seen before and return to venues I have played in the past was too good an opportunity to miss.”

On announcing Winging It, John said: "When I start this ew tour, it will be three years since my last live show Supersonic, which is the longest break I've ever had.  I'm very much looking forward to getting back on the road - there really is nothing like performing stand-up in front of a live audience.  The new show is called Winging It, and in some respects having come to comedy relatively late, it sometimes feels like that’s what I'm doing in life!  But I'm enjoying every minute of it."

Winging It will see John back on stage for his fifth UK & Ireland tour, performing in his own inimitable style.  His last tour ‘Supersonic’ was watched by more than 500,000 people and received huge critical acclaim.  ‘Rollercoaster’ in 2012 was another sell out, and followed the successes of his ‘Sunshine’ tour in 2011 and the ‘Elvis Has Left The Building’ show in 2010, for which he was nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award.

John Bishop has had an incredible career.  Within three years of his first ever comedy gig, John was playing to sold out arena audiences across the country and released the fastest selling stand-up DVD in UK history.

He has achieved huge success with a number of his own comedy, entertainment and documentary shows including ‘John Bishop’s Australia’ (BBC1), ‘John Bishop’s Britain’ (BBC1), ‘John Bishop’s Only Joking’ (Sky1), ‘The John Bishop Show’ (BBC1), ‘The John Bishop Christmas Show’ (BBC1) and ‘John Bishop’s Gorilla Adventure’ (ITV1).

Recently John turned his hand to something completely different – interviewing.  A new series called ‘John Bishop: In Conversation With…’ sees him chatting, one on one, with some of the UK’s biggest names from the world of entertainment, sport and music to discover the people behind the public persona, in 10 intimate and revealing one hour interviews on the W Channel.

John has recently made a return to acting – he is currently filming a new ITV drama, Fearless. Written by Homeland writer Patrick Harbinson and produced by Mammoth Screen (credits include Poldark and Victoria), the six part series will TX next year.

Tiernan has appeared several times on The Late Late Show. In the United States he has appeared several times on the Late Show with David Letterman. Recently[when?] he appeared on the Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow, Lee Mack Show, DAVE's One Night Stand, QI and joined comedic legends Eddie Izzard and Ross Noble at Laughs in the Park.

In 2009, Tiernan set the Guinness World Record for the longest stand-up comedy show by an individual, achieving 36 hours and 15 minutes at Nuns Island in Galway (12 April 2009).[5] Later in 2009 that record was broken by Australian comedian Lindsay Webb. However, the new record now stands at 40 hours, and was set on 23 September 2010 by the American comedian Bob Marley.

In "Going to America", the final episode of the clerical sitcom Father Ted, Tiernan plays a young priest whose suicide attempt is foiled by Ted at "It's Great Being a Priest '98". He is later cured of depression by the "Theme From Shaft", but subsequently relapses after overhearing the Radiohead song "Exit Music (For a Film)".

In the 1999 Channel 4 sitcom Small Potatoes, Tiernan took the lead role of Ed Blewitt, an underachiever who works in an east London video rental shop. It ran for 13 episodes over 2 seasons, ending in 2001.[6]

In 2008, Tiernan and Hector Ó hEochagáin formed as a radio duo on The Tommy and Hector Show on i102-104FM after hinting at a desire to be on the radio, months before on The Late Late Show. Speaking about his role, Tiernan said, "I’ve always wanted to have loads of craic on the radio. What better way to have a mountain of devilment than to do a show with my best friend."[7] Following the success of their show on iRadio Northwest, the show moved to the nationwide slot of Saturday 10am-12pm on 2FM.

In 2013, Tiernan performed in Vicar St, Dublin, for his 200th show, in front of an audience of 1000 people.

To date Tiernan has eight stand up comedy DVDs: Tommy Tiernan Live, Cracked, Loose, Jokerman, Ok Baby, Bovinity, Crooked Man and Stray Sod.

On 5 January 2017, Tiernan presented the first episode of The Tommy Tiernan Show on RTÉ One.
